Is there anything more delicious than a homemade waffle that’s golden crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside? Homemade gluten free waffles are easy to make and way more delicious that anything you can buy at the store. I’ve been using this recipe for years, first making gluten-filled waffles and now I’ve converted the recipe for gluten free waffles. They turn out amazing every time! It is truly difficult to tell they are gluten free.
One of my favorite things about making waffles are the leftovers. After cooling, I stack them up and store them in aluminum foil or a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Pop them in a toaster oven when needed and you have a delicious crispy waffle! You can even make a big batch and store it in the freezer to use as needed, although I would recommend freezing them individually for a few hours before stacking them up so they’ll separate easier.
Top your waffle with your favorite maple syrup, berry sauce, whipped cream or fruit. We just happened to have a fresh batch of chokecherry syrup (I used this recipe https://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/chokecherry-syrup-134061), which was a perfect topping over the waffles.
And who can resist fresh whipped cream??? It’s so simple to make! Whisk together in a stand mixer on medium speed 1 cup heavy cream with 3 Tbs powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Add ½ teaspoon vanilla and stir to combine. Careful not to over whip! It should take about 3-4 minutes.
I’ve only made these waffles in a standard waffle iron, never a Belgium waffle iron. I’d be curious to see if it works for you as I don’t own one!
Enjoy!
Gluten Free Waffles
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups (375 grams) gluten free flour blend
- 2 teaspoon guar or xanthan gum omit if in blend
- 1 Tbs + 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ Tbs sugar
- 2 eggs
- ¾ cup canola oil
- 2 ½ cups milk
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, sift flour blend, guar gum, baking powder, salt and sugar. Set aside.
- In another bowl, combine eggs and canola oil and whisk until creamy and emulsified. Stir in milk. Pour milk mixture into flour mixture and stir until the majority of the clumps are gone. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
- Preheat waffle iron to desired setting. Pour ⅓ cup to ½ cup of batter on waffle iron and cook until golden brown. My waffle iron takes about 4-5 minutes per waffle.
- Serve immediately to maintain crispiness. If you need to keep them warm before serving, its best done in the oven on a low temperature, such as 225 degrees F. Place the waffles single file on an oven safe wire baking rack. Stacking the waffles will cause them to lose crispiness.
